Early Moonrise, Bixby Slough

Over the past years I've been coming regularly to paint at Bixby Slough. Capturing a moon rise over the lake is exciting for me. The moon rise on the day before the full moon is always my favorite because the timing of the sun setting coincides with the moon rising. Everything is still washed with the warm color of twilight as the gibbous moon makes it's appearance low on the horizon. With battery operated lights fixed to my easel I can settle into painting as the evening progresses.
